Newcomers Evening
It was lovely to welcome the new residents of Shamley Green to our annual Newcomers evening. This evening presents a wonderful opportunity for the various village societies to come together to recruit new members. The highlight of the evening has to be the delicious pancakes cooked by volunteers from the village.

Village Barn Dance
A wonderful fun filled evening was had by all at our village Barn Dance on Saturday 2nd December. The Spike Island Band performed a repertoire of lively traditional dances including reels, rants, polkas, jigs and hornpipes! Together with a Caller, they got everyone on their feet and proved to be a very popular evening.

Light Up & Carols on The Green
Arbuthnot Hall opened up for our annual Light Up & Longacre Carols on The Green Green. A festive evening started with our vicar, Sally, saying a few words followed by a count down to the Christmas lights switch on round the village. Mulled wine, hot chocolate & hot dogs were served and the Hall was packed Christmas Stalls.

Hall Property Consulation
The Hall Management Committee is making good progress with plans to redevelop the village hall for the benefit of the wider community.
We had a positive response to the designs displayed to the village at our Property Consultation held on 30th November.
All feedback was noted and we are now in the process of appointing architects.

Gardening Club Annual Show
The Shamley Green Gardening Club Annual Show took place in Arbuthnot Hall, and was yet again a prolific cornucopia of achievements, in spite of the challenging weather conditions this year. The Hall was packed with a wonderful array of fruit & vegetables, flower displays, village photographs, marmalades & chutneys and delicious cakes and brownies.

Jubilee Jazz n' Jive Party
Arbuthnot Hall was transformed into a vintage 50’s style dance hall for the Jubilee Jazz n’ Jive Party and marked one of many village celebrations over the weekend to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The band, Miss Dolores & Friends, got the Hall humming with Jubilee Jivers. It was great to see so many people of all ages having such fun!

Cricket Club Wine Tasting Evening
On 9 April the Cricket Club hosted a wine tasting evening in the Arbuthnot Hall which raised over £1700 for the Disasters Emergency Committee Appeal for Ukraine. The evening was expertly led by Ben Watkins from the Guildford Wine Company and Paddy Willis, the SGCC chief sommelier.

Charity Sale in aid of Ukraine
Thank you to all the participants and villagers who turned up at very short notice in support of this event on April 2nd. We are delighted to announce that the funds raised were £1,563! An amazing array of delicious cakes were baked, teas and coffees served and the hall was filled with different stands selling toys and gifts, pre-loved clothes, glass and china, plants and a very large bookstall!

An evening with Peter Gibbs
The Shamley Green Gardening Club hosted a fascinating talk by Peter Gibbs, GQT host, broadcaster and meteorologist entitled "May the weather be with you!". The evening was very well attended and some interesting points raised about the science of weather and climate.

Environment Group news...
Michael More Molyneux, the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, came to Shamley Green to look at some of the work the Parish Council, the Environment Group and our schools are doing as part of the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations. A lunch was held at the Arbuthnot Hall, where the Lord Lieutenant met representatives from the Shamley Green and Wonersh Environment Groups and heard about their projects including tree planting for the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative.
